Resident Project - Tayura

Tucked within the lantern-lit streets of Naramachi, Tayura distils boutique hospitality to its most intimate expression. With just two rooms, the experience feels less like a hotel stay and more like inhabiting a carefully composed design narrative — one where materiality, tone and light converge in quiet harmony.

Conceived by Yoshiaki Nagasaka of Hitotomori Architects, the reimagined structure pairs exposed steel beams with a softened, dreamlike palette.

Walls in a distinctive pink-putty hue are complemented by Lauan timber detailing, while curved partitions gently dissolve the rigidity of the original walls.

It is within this restrained yet expressive interior that the Bloom Pendants come into their own.

Suspended like sculptural punctuation, their soft, diffused glow lends an atmospheric warmth, echoing the tonal subtlety of the surrounding finishes.

As a decorative light, Residents Bloom Pendants in White and Black anchor each room - elevating the experience from minimal accommodation to immersive design retreat.

Considered details in the rooms, from Sri Lankan cotton loungewear to textured hemp bedding, introduce a quiet tactility, while in the larger suite, a semi-outdoor bathroom blurs the boundary between inside and out.

Generous proportions and a private courtyard area, rare for Japan, enhance the sense of calm.

Tayura is located at 20 Minamicho, Nara 630-8873, Japan.

Rates start from JPY 49,800, making it an inviting option for a memorable stay in this culturally rich destination.
