Resident introduces the Plane Lounge Chair

Resident, in partnership with Jamie McLellan, is thrilled to unveil the Plane Lounge Chair, an audacious new addition to the acclaimed Plane collection. Expanding on the collection’s architectural language, the Plane Lounge Chair is as much a sculptural statement as it is a place to sit.

Crafted in New Zealand, this striking piece is built from solid timber, its bold geometric form seemingly defying gravity. Two monumental legs, reminiscent of skids, support a cantilevered seat, while a seamlessly integrated backrest enhances both comfort and composition. True to the Plane collection’s ethos, the engineering is deliberately concealed, allowing the purity of form to take centre stage.

Designer Jamie McLellan describes the chair as possessing a “heroic quality,” likening its presence to the weight and balance of a Richard Serra sculpture. “It’s definitely a statement piece just because of its presence and its mass,” McLellan notes. “But it’s really comfortable and functional. I can visualise it in a beautiful architectural home, in a pair overlooking an incredible view.”

With its raw materiality, deliberate balance, and effortless elegance, the Plane Lounge Chair is an exploration of weight, form, and proportion, an object that commands attention while remaining profoundly usable.
