Resident and Gensler - Chairity 2021
Another year, another success.
Since 2017 Chairity has raised over USD $355,000 for incredible nonprofit organisations while connecting the design community through creativity, design, and collaboration. Chairity is an annual event hosted by Two Furnish where creatives auction off their designs to raise money for a chosen community.
In response to the alarming escalation in xenophobia and bigotry resulting from the Covid 19 pandemic, the Asian Pacific Policy Council, Chinese for Affirmative Action, and the Asian American Studies Department of San Francisco University launched the Stop AAPI Hate coalition on March 19, 2020. The coalition tracks and responds to incidents of hate, violence, harassment, discrimination, shunning, and child bullying against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Stop AAPI Hate was our chosen organisation for 2021.
In collaboration with Gensler San Francisco we reached across the ocean to create ‘The Culture Quilt’ a one of a kind object inspired by Stop AAPI Hate. Thrifted fabrics from San Francisco and Auckland representing each city's official colours were combined with dead-stock fabrics donated by Kvadrat. No matter how far apart the threads, or how different the fabrics, they all come together to celebrate diversity.
